National Energy Efficiency Roadmap for Movement towards Affordable and Natural habitat

The National Energy Efficiency Roadmap for Movement towards Affordable and Natural habitat (NEERMAN) Awards for Energy Efficient Building Design in India are being constituted with the objective to acknowledge and encourage exemplary building designs complying with BEE’s Energy Conservation Building Codes.

The NEERMAN Awards will be for two categories of buildings

  1. “Commercial” based on ECBC, 2017 (Revised: April 2018),
  2. “Residential” based on Eco-Niwas Samhita 2018.

Commercial

Only projects that were completed between January 1, 2017 and Date of awards are eligible for participation. Unbuilt projects, future projects, partially completed and incomplete projects are not eligible for awards submission.

Residential

Only projects that were completed between January 1, 2017 and Date of awards are eligible for participation. Unbuilt projects, future projects, partially completed and incomplete projects are not eligible for awards submission.

Subsidized / Affordable Housing

Affordable housing, which is a focus area for the Government is kept as a separate category. Affordable housing is defined as houses that have carpet area of up to 60 m2.

Market Rate Housing

Market Rate Housing refers to all other kinds of housing

The NEERMAN Awards launched in 2021, are national-level recognition for exemplary building designs complying with BEE’s Energy Conservation Building Codes. They are being conducted annually by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, an apex Government of India organization developing policies and strategies with a thrust on self-regulation and market principles with the primary objective of reducing the energy intensity of the Indian economy within the overall framework of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001.

The eligibility criteria for commercial buildings are as follows:

  1. Connected load of 100 kW or greater or a contract demand of 120 kVA or greater
  2. Projects that have received Occupancy Certificate (OC) between 1st January 2017 and date of submission
  3. Projects which have 100% of high side HVAC, 50% of low side HVAC, and 50% of lighting equipment installed
  4. Registered with the relevant real estate regulatory authority, if applicable

The eligibility criteria for residential buildings are as follows:

  1. Built on a plot area ≥500 m2
  2. Projects that have received Occupancy Certificate (OC) between 1st January 2017 and date of submission
  3. Registered with the relevant real estate regulatory authority, if applicable

The information required at Stage 1 evaluation is proof of eligibility, completed application forms, project team’s declaration, and project drawings. After a project is shortlisted for Stage 2 evaluation, the project team shall submit detailed documentation. Please refer to the user manual available on the website for further information.

The information shared by applicants shall be kept confidential for the NEERMAN Awards evaluation. However, as an acknowledgment for the winning entries, a compendium of their case studies shall be uploaded on the BEE and BEEP website and will be circulated via-e-mail to the building industry network.
